ABOUT US

The new owners of Hotel Kew, Peter and Janet
Archbold, bring with them to Kew the combined
experience of over 50 years in the Hotel industry.
Through the Penshurst Hotel in 1974, the
Archbolds began their lifelong journey into the
unknown future of hotel life.

After Penshurst, they went on to the National Hotel in
Woolsthorpe – The Archbolds owned and operated the
National for 3 years until 1984 and then ventured out to the
Mt. Elephant Hotel in Derrinallum. From 1984 and through to
1987 the people from the outlying districts came to appreciate
their family orientated style and heartfelt service.

The move to a bigger venue was inevitable and in 1987 Peter and Janet purchased the Royal Hotel in Warrnambool.

In 1993 the Archbolds ventured to Port Melbourne, where Peter managed the Albion Hotel for a period of six months. It was from this short tenure in the big smoke that Peter realized the potential for old fashioned, country style hospitality in the city. The Tower Hotel in the south eastern suburb of Hawthorn was targeted and Peter and Janet occupied the venue until 1996, having been successful enough to move into Toorak to purchase the Bush Inn Hotel. It was also during their stay here that the Archbolds made the Castle Hotel in North Melbourne their own. The hospitality was not lost on the local clientele as many were sad to see them walk out the door for the last time in 2002 in Toorak, and 2004 in North Melbourne.

After a short break from the industry, Peter and Janet, rested and refreshed, recently took over what is now the Hotel Kew. The Hotel has been extensively renovated and refurbished with a modern feel without losing the style and manner that they have come to make their own. Customers are always welcomed as old friends and many leave commenting on how comfortable they felt during their stay.

The Archbolds, together with their staff at The Hotel Kew, look forward to seeing you in the near future, to sample some of the ‘country hospitality in the city’.
